Thoughts
“Art is the expression of the most profound thought in the simplest way.”
Einstein
More often than not when we look at the world, we see what we want to see, believe what we want to believe and hear what we want to hear. The sub-conscious mind often perverts reality without our ever being aware of it happening. Having said that, I search for the truth- not your truth but my truth, an ever-changing truth. It is much like peeling the layers off an onion - each layer that is peeled off reveals a deeper understanding of the next layer, until finally there is nothing left to understand but the medium itself. To accomplish this I use as subjects the child’s game of tic tac toe, walls, and anthropomorphized flowers. I use oils both for their beauty and history, graphite and charcoal for their simplicity.
Through my work I am deconstructing my world so that I may understand it in the simplest form.
The viewer is free to join in the experience of peeling the onion.
